Left to Right: Drew Sidora as T-Boz, Lil’ Mama as Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes and Keke Palmer as Chilli as girl group TLC in VH1’s ‘Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story.
Monday 21/10/2013, VH1 launched the highly anticipated and much speculated TLC biopic “Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story.
The biopic was highly anticipated because of the dynamics, success and popularity of TLC.
Being able to find a copy of the film was not hard, and I was thoroughly impressed by the depiction of their lives. The three actresses who covered the stars lives were great in their performances.
Drew Sidora (T-Boz), Lil Mama (Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes) and Keke Palmer (Chilli) all resembled the group and recreated the story to great success. All three had a bond which seemed to resemble the bond TLC had as a group.
Much of the film promotion did revolve around Lil Mama playing the role of ‘Left Eye’ who had passed away in a car crash in 2002. Many didn’t believe Lil Mama would do justice; however, I do believe she not only resembled ‘Left Eye’ but did ‘Left Eye’ great justice with her acting.
“I remember walking up to T-Boz and Chilli on set, and they backed away from me! They freaked out, because, at first sight, I reminded them so much of Lisa.”
“Lisa’s sister, Reigndrop, also visited us on set. She broke down and started crying, but she told me that it was a good thing.”
As the film came to a draw towards the death of Lisa Lopes, there was an eerie film because the viewers knew what was going to happen. The casualty was neither exaggerated nor under played. To recreate such a moment must have been hard, however, the three did fantastic.
All in all, the film was a great recreation of the life of TLC. All three actresses did a great job as TLC and this was great viewing. If you have the chance, watch the film and enjoy the story.
