Control: Kendrick Lamar Speaks About His Verse

“I’m usually homeboys with the same n*ggas I’m rhymin’ with
But this is hip-hop and them n*ggas should know what time it is
And that goes for Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale
Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake
Big Sean, Jay Electron’, Tyler, Mac Miller
I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you n*gga”

Over two weeks ago Big Sean leaked the track “Control” which featured Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica, which did not make his album Hall of Fame. The reaction to Kendrick Lamar’s verse was phenomenal with several New York rappers including Joe Budden, Papoose and Joey Bada$$ responding to Lamar claiming he was the King of  New York on the track (even though he is from the West Coast). The track even had several UK artist responding to the verse including Big Narstie. It did become tedious, but it did spark a needed response.

Kendrick caught up with Hot 97 to give his response to the effect his verse had on Hip-Hop. Seemed as if Lamar was happy that he created a response which got rappers rapping again, rather than instagramming and having “mother meetings” *cough* OVO *cough*.
